Chelsea have officially confirmed that Marc Cucurella has completed a permanent transfer to Real Madrid, ending a nearly four-year stint at Stamford Bridge.
The Spain left-back signed a six-year deal with the La Liga giants, joining shortly after midnight on Monday, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The deal is valued at up to £51.8 million, including a £47.5 million base fee and £4.3 million in performance-related add-ons, as confirmed by ESPN and the BBC.
Cucurella, 27, arrived at Chelsea in August 2022 from Brighton and made over 100 appearances before this shocking summer exit.
What makes this transfer remarkable is not just the fee but the timing. Cucurella is currently with Spain at the World Cup in North America, making his departure during an international tournament unusually disruptive.
Real Madrid bypassed rivals Atlético Madrid to secure the deal, signaling their urgent push to strengthen the left flank ahead of the 2026–27 season.
From a business perspective, the move represents a rare large-scale profit for Chelsea, who inherited Cucurella from Brighton for £25 million just two years prior.
The Spanish defender’s reputation has grown steadily under Mikel Arteta’s influence at Chelsea, and his departure leaves a significant void in their defensive options.
Cucurella has not yet posted publicly about the transfer, but club sources say he was eager to return to Spain and play for Real Madrid, a club he supported as a child.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano called the agreement “stunning,” noting Madrid secured it “from under the noses” of Atlético.
Fans and analysts alike are now watching how Real Madrid integrates him alongside new signings as they prepare for a title chase.
Stay tuned for official club announcements and Cucurella’s first Bernabéu training session.
