Labour has lost Wales for the first time in its modern history, marking a seismic shift in British politics that threatens the authority of Prime Minister Keir Starmer just two years after his nationwide landslide.
Initial results from the Senedd election show the party tumbling into third place, eclipsed by Plaid Cymru and Reform UK, with a resurgent Wales Green Party winning its first seats at the national level.

Mutinous Labour MPs and Welsh MSs are openly blaming Starmer for what they call a “constitutional and political rupture” in the party’s heartland, pointing to a rushed funding scheme that bypassed the Welsh government and a perceived retreat from traditional Labour pledges.

One senior backbencher privately told iShareNews: “We’re not losing Wales because of the Tories; we’re losing Wales because people no longer trust Labour.”
If the new balance of power holds, Starmer’s premiership could face its first serious test outside Westminster, with internal critics arguing that his centrist course has alienated the very voters who carried him into Downing Street.
